How to Open a Jiffy Lube Franchise

Article provided by wikihow the wikihow manual.

If you have ever dreamed about owning your own business, you may want to consider opening your own Jiffy Lube franchise. Jiffy Lube has been providing quick lube and other automotive services since 1979. As of 2011, there are over 2,000 Jiffy Lube locations in North America, all of which are 100 percent franchised-owned.

Steps

  1. 1
Make sure you can meet the initial investment requirements needed to open a Jiffy Lube Franchise. Jiffy Lube does not provide direct financing.

    • You need anywhere between $214,000 and $273,000 to open a Jiffy Lube franchise. Your initial investment includes the initial franchise fee, first month's rent and security deposit, equipment, signs, and fixtures, initial inventory, opening marketing expenses, insurance, training expenses incurred, and enough funds to cover bills for the next 6 months.
  2. 2
Make sure that you are comfortable with the ongoing fees associated with opening a Jiffy Lube franchise.
    • As a Jiffy Lube franchise owner, you must pay the company 5 percent of all of your gross sales. Other charges you may also incur include remedial expenses, POS support charges, training expenses, product testing expenses, fleet processing charges, audit expenses, service charges, transfer fees, renewal fees and cooperative advertising.
  3. 3
Contact Jiffy Lube for more information on opening a franchise location.
    • There is a "Request More Information" form on the Jiffy Lube website that you must fill out if you would like to open a franchise. In addition to your contact information, you can also choose to disclose your available investment and net worth. A representative from the company will then contact you to discuss your options.
  4. 4
Sign an agreement to open a Jiffy Lube franchise.
    • The terms of agreement for the contract you sign allow you to run your franchise location for a period of 20 years. After those 20 years are up, you have the option of renewing or extending your franchise agreement for 2 10-year renewal terms.
    • By signing a franchise agreement with Jiffy Lube, the company agrees to not open any other locations within 3 miles of your location.
  5. 5
Complete the training required to open a franchise location.
    • Jiffy Lube requires 3 weeks of training before you can open your location. For the first week of training, both you, as the franchisee, and your day-to-day decision maker must be in attendance. For the next 2 weeks, the company only requires that your day-to-day decision maker for your franchise location be in attendance.
    • The training will cover various ancillary services, Jiffy Lube J-Team Service standard procedures, and health, safety, security and environment protocols.

Tips

  • If you are already an independent quick lube owner, you can transition your service center into a Jiffy Lube location. For more information, fill out Jiffy Lube's contact form.
