Start a Toyota Prius (US)

Are you seriously thinking about buying a Toyota Prius in the United States? Have you test-driven one yet? If you have, the dealer may already have told you how to start the engine with the key. If you haven't yet test-driven one, this article will tell you how one of these cars is started(with (and without) a key).

Steps

  1. 1
Grab the key from your pocketbook or the dealers hands, depending on where you are.2
  2. Keep the remote/key with the remote's keys in the upright position.
  3. 3
Push this key into the ignition. DO NOT TURN THE KEY!
  4. 4
Push and hold your right foot onto the brake pedal.
  5. 5
Touch the "Power" button, to turn on your vehicle.
  6. 6
Place the car into the gear, by pushing the joystick-like gear shifter into the gear you want. The gear will light up in the top of the dashboard.

Tips

  • On newer models, there is a separate "Park" button that can be enabled to park your vehicle.
  • On newer models that are equipped with the "SmartKey" option, as long as you keep the key someplace in your vehicle, you don't need to insert your key into the dashboard. As long as it is somewhere's closeby(at all times) you may leave the key out of the dashboard.
