   At this point, it should be about 65% fully charged. Check the electrolyte level, and if necessary add more. Remember- this is the ONLY time in your motorcycle battery’s life that you will add anything except water.

   Time to charge it up! If you’re working with a refillable lead-antimony battery, charge it for about 4 to 5 hours at one-third of its rated capacity to get a full charge. Manufacturers suggest charging maintenance free battery types with a constant-current charger, driving the charge with as much as 16.9 volts, closely monitored so that they do not exceed a full charge. (Another great reason to consider owning a smart charger).

   Once charged, let your battery rest and cool until the case contracts enough to allow it to fit snugly into the holder, and (if it has one) run the new breather tube through the original factory routing, keeping it away from your chain.
