Light up that bike.

Installing LED Lights with remote control on a motorcycle.

Steps

  1. 1
    Quick Connectors
    Quick Connectors
Disconnect the motorcycle battery, which is under the seat on most motorcycles.

  2. 2
    LED Flexible strips
    LED Flexible strips
Separate all of your LED Strips into separate piles on the ground or work bench.
  3. 3
Put all the same size strips into separate piles.
  4. 4
Test each strip. Unwrap each LED strip individually and test the strip by attaching the positive lead wire to the positive terminal on the battery, connect the negative lead wire to the negative side of the battery terminal and make sure that; each individual strip is fully lit.
    • Note: if you connect the wires and the strip doesn't light, reverse the leadwires and connect them to the battery , they will usually light and sometimes the wires get reversed in the manufacturing process.
  5. 5
Prepare to mount all of the LED strips. After you have tested all of your LED strips and found them all to be in good working order, with all of the LED lights working, you are ready to mount your LED strips in various places on the motorcycle with 3M double sided VHB tape.
  6. 6
Try creative positioning. You can hook up the LED strips direct to the battery to do some "creative positioning" with each strip by holding up a lit strip to your intended mounting location to see how well the lit strip will look in the location you desire to place the strip in.
  7. 7
Use double sided tape to affix the strip. After you have decided where you will place each strip on the motorcycle, you will attach the 3M double sided VHB tape to the side or bottom of the LED strip. This tape has protective vinyl cover on each side, so you first attach the tape to the strip. Then you wipe the intended mounting location with rubbing alcohol.
  8. 8
You then peel off the protective vinyl on the mounting side of the LED strip and place it on the motorcycle.
  9. 9
Route your lead wire along the frame until you get it close to your battery location. You can use a piece of heavy duty Weedeater line to tape to the end of your lead wire with black tape to feed your lead wire through the crevices to get the lead wire close to your battery. Do this with each LED strip, until all of the LED strips are mounted on the motorcycle in your desired locations.
  10. 10
Connect the relay box to the battery. Your relay has 5 wires attached to it, 1 Red, 2 Black, 1 White and 1 Blue. The Red wire gets a boat fuse connected to it, then gets connected to your positive battery terminal. The Black wire(either one) gets connected to your negative battery terminal.
    • Do not put your fuse into the Boat fuse until you get everything completely wired up and are ready to test the light system.
  11. 11
Strap the antenna wire. The Blue wire is an antenna wire, strap it along the frame of the motorcycle to get a good distance of RF reception. The White wire is your positive out wire and the other Black wire is your negative out wire.
    • These 2 wires go into separate wire junction boxes or connector boxes, (see picture). The White wire goes into 1 quick connector and the Black wire goes into the other quick connector.
  12. 12
After stripping all of your lead wires to expose 1/2 inch of bare wire at each end, separate the negative and positive part of each lead wire to about 4 inches up the lead wire.
  13. 13
Connect all of your positive lead wires together, (remember you have 5 port holes in each quick connector), so divide the lead wires up equally and lift all of the levers on each quick connector, place all of the positive wires into the quick connector with the White wire from the relay box and place all of the negative wires into the quick connector with the Black wire from the relay box.
  14. 14
Next you are ready to put a 5 amp fuse into your boat fuse.
Next you are ready to put a 5 amp fuse into your boat fuse.
Next you are ready to put a 5 amp fuse into your boat fuse. Install the fuse into the Boat fuse connector that is connected to the Positive Battery terminal. After you have all of the wires connected up tight and you are sure, that you don't have any loose connecting wires, then you will push the green button on your keyfob to turn the lights on. Your lights should all be illuminated now. If not, check any wires for loose connections to any strips that are not lit. You are now ready to" GET OUT THERE" and show off your new image.

Remember, that some states have laws that may indeed "Prohibit" these types of lights to be lit while you are driving on the road or highway. In other words; check the laws in your state prior to riding on the road with your lights illuminated. They are only allowed for "Display Only Purposes" in some states. Check the laws before you ride, and STAY SAFE OUT THERE.
