Steps
- Make sure the vehicle is parked and cool. Never open the radiator cap on a hot car.
- Remove the upper radiator hose from the waterneck on the intake. Make sure you have a pan and some towels or kitty litter to catch the fluids that spill. Remember that the coolant/antifreeze is deadly to animals and they will drink it.
- Once you have the hose off, you must remove the 2 bolts that hold the waterneck to the intake. Depending on the year of the vehicle, there may also be a temp sensor connected on the waterneck. Just unplug and continue.
- After the bolts are off, you may need to tap the waterneck with a rubber mallet to break it free. Pay attention to the position on the thermostat so you are sure to install the new one in the same direction.
- You should have already bought the new thermostat and gasket, so now you just remove the old gasket from the waterneck and the intake. Be careful not to let old gasket material fall into the intake.
- Most new gaskets of this type are peel and stick, so do that. Position the new thermostat into position and get the waterneck bolts hand tight.
- Tighten the bolts to the proper torque spec and reinstall the upper radiator hose and temp sensor if it was there. top off your water/coolant and give it a test drive.
Warnings
- antifreeze/coolant is deadly to people and pets.

- remember to let the car cool down before you think about opening the radiator cap.
- make sure to keep your hands and anything else clear from the fan and drive belts while the engine is running.
- make sure you remove all tools from under the hood before you start the vehicle.
