Many of us have had the problem of a dead or depleted battery. However, owners of vehicles with manual transmissions (standard or "stick shift") can start their car even if the battery is dead!
Steps
- 1Get a couple of people to help you.
- 2Push the car to an area where you have some room to get some speed.
- 3Have someone who knows how to drive the vehicle get in the car.
- 4Turn the key to the "On" position (but don't try to start the car!).
- 5Put the car in 2nd gear, and hold in the clutch.
- 6Tell your helpers to push!
- 7Let out the clutch, and give it some gas when the vehicle reaches 5-7mph (8-10kph). The car will start.
- 8Thank your helpers, and continue on your way.
Tips
- This works best if you can roll down the hill. If you have a hill, you may not need helpers.
Warnings
- Make sure nobody is in front of the car when you attempt to push start it.
- Be careful when starting the car. Make sure you give the car enough gas to get it started.
