Removing and installing the shocks on an RT is as easy as it gets. It shouldn't take more than 1.5 hrs from start to finish for both shocks. (Note that these instructions were written for an 1150RT but are similar for many models)
Steps
- 1Put the bike on the center stand.
- 2Remove bodywork, both left and right sides.
- 3Remove the air intake tubes.
- If installed with stock radio box, this will also need to be removed from the tank to allow tank to be moved back and give easy access for shock replacement.
- 4Remove bolt that secures the tank.
- 5Slide the tank back to expose the upper mount using caution not to kink the fuel lines.
- 6Remove the nut and rubber grommet from the upper shock mount. (the front tire will slowly droop to the floor)
- 7Remove the lower shock bolt and pull the shock down and out of it's upper mount.
- 8Remove the rubber grommet from the old shock and install it on the new shock (if applicable)
- 9That's it, repeat steps in reverse to install.
Tips
- It helps to have a nearly empty gas tank so that it doesn't weigh so much and is easy to move.
