A stroboscope is a source of discrete flashes. It is used to study the frequency of fast motion. Now lets stop talking science and let us talk about the fun of creating a stroboscope. All you have to do is follow the steps:
Steps
- 1All people thinks of a stroboscope as a source of a flashing light but why not turning it all the way around. You have to use the following materials for the stroboscope:small battery powered car, scissors, compass for drawing a circle,a sheet of black carton,a sheet of transparent paper,a source of light,a shoebox, and a wax gun or any other type of glue.
- 2Start by taking from the car its power(batteries and engine)without cutting the electrical wires between the batteries and engine and keep the wheels.
- 3Take the wheels off but keep the steel that rotates with the engine attached.
- 4Take shoe box and put the car's engine in it but by using the scissors cut the box to make a hole for the wheel to get out from the bottom of the box.
- 5Take the source of light and attach it beside the hole of the wheel.
- 6Use the compass to carve a radius complementery to the source of light(this circle will be used as an opaque surface to stop the glowing of light) on the sheet of black carton.
- 7Cut out 2 layers of the black carton.
- 8Cut out an angle of 30' to let light pass.
- 9Now use the transparent sheet to fill the cut.
- 10By using the wax gun glue the carton circle to the wheel.
- 11Now the stroboscope is finished the last step is inserting the batteries and turn it on and by using the controller of the car you can have negligible frequencies and rounds per second (RPS) which changes the amount of flashes.
Tips
- Use rechargeable batteries or alkaline to have the most efficient speed.
- Be sure that the radius of the carton stops all light from passing
- This kind of stroboscope can be used for science projects and for fun but not for advanced studies.
