How to Apply Graphic Skins to Laptop and Other Devices

Article provided by wikihow the wikihow manual.

There are a lot of high tech gadgets nowadays that you can’t do without. Procuring a laptop, cell phone, gaming and entertainment equipment whether handheld or console type with controller is a costly investment that should be given the best care possible and you can do that with removable skins. Here are the steps on how to apply removable graphic skins for all the gadgets mentioned above:

Steps

  1. 1
For best results: Apply indoors with a dust free environment.

  2. 2
Tools required: Masking tape, new razor blade or scissor, squeegee (credit card), soft cloth, tape measure.
  3. 3
Make sure your notebook is clean. Wipe it off with a soft cloth. The notebook should be free of dust, fat and grease - otherwise the skin may not stick to your laptop as well as it's supposed to.
  4. 4
Layout the graphic skin onto the laptop to determine exactly where you want the graphic skin installed. Apply a strip of tape vertically through the center of the graphic skin and lightly tape each end of the graphic skin to the laptop.
  5. 5
Remove the positioning tape on either side of the center hinge from the panel and peel the liner paper away from this portion of the graphic skin. Temporarily secure the end of the graphic skin to the laptop surface and cut the backing paper off near the center hinge.
  6. 6
Lift the edge of the graphic skin from the laptop surface and use the squeegee or credit card to rub the graphic skin into place using short, overlapping vertical strokes from the center of the graphic skin to the end.
  7. 7
Remove the tape hinge from the center of the graphic skin. Remove the remaining backing paper and squeegee the remaining half of the panel onto the laptop.

Tips

  • If any small bubbles have appeared during installation, they can be removed squeezing the trapped air out with the tip of your finger or if skin is removable, you can lift the graphic skin up and reapply in that area.
  • You can use the 5 steps above to apply the graphic skins to other devices. However with the small devices such as iPods, iPhones…., they are easier to apply because they are already made to fit.
